The best Apple strudel does not come from Austria

Apple strudel is very popular here in Slovenia. I guess this has to do something with the proximity of Austria. The best things about this dessert are:

- it is realy easy to make 
- it is healthy
- it is super delitious
- kinds can make it with a little asistance

If you'd like to complicate things, you can make puff dough from scratch, but we always use frozen dough from the store. You just have to take it out of the freezer one hour before you start backing.

You don't need a lot of ingredients for a delicious strudel, but you need some tasty apples. They don't have to be fresh, but they have to be juicy. We always use sweet apples, to avoid adding any additional sugar. 

You will have to peel and grate approximately 1 kg of apples and you don't need to add anything else. Some people add cinnamon, lemon zest, raisins, chopped wall nuts, coconut flour,... We usually add just some vanilla seeds, cinnamon and raisins.

When you prepared the filling, lightly roll out the dough in a large rectangular shape. Be careful! The width of the dough mustn't be wider then the with of your backing tray! The dough has to be thick 2 mm. 

Place the filling on the center of the dough (lengthwise) and cover it tightly with both sides of the dough. Seal edges of pastry with your fingers, rubbing the pastry edges together. All you have to do before backing is to pierce it with the fork several times. Transfer the strudel onto your backing tray and bake in a preheated oven (210 °C) for 40 minutes.

Sing a couple of "My favorite things" songs from the movie "A sound of music" and try to find apple strudel in the lyrics.

By all means, apple strudel is also on the list of our favorite things ;-)
